ABJ & Associates is an accounting and tax preparation service. We do external bookkeeping on a monthly or quarterly basis, payroll and payroll tax reports on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis, sales and use tax, and we wrap things up into a tax return at the end of the year. We prepare most forms of business taxes including LLC, Schedule C, Partnership, and Corporation, as well as personal taxes. We also do numerous other services relating to the financial needs of any small business including budgeting, financial reporting, and establishing record-keeping systems. We do many of the things that a CPA would do, but with a focus on tax planning and preparation.
Meet the Staff
Amy Jack, Senior Accountant, Owner

As a young adult I already had an interest in keeping tabs on finances. I would spend hours looking for a penny when my checkbook was out of balance. That is why, when trying to decide on a career, my mom suggested accounting. I have not regretted that choice (well, maybe a little during auditing class). I have a bachelor’s degree in accounting with a focus on business management from Baker College in Flint, Michigan. I began working for a tax and accounting service in Davison when I received my associate degree, also in accounting. I got my practical experience there, working with some wonderful people. With the support of my family, I made the decision in April of 1997 to go out on my own. I purchased the necessary equipment and built my office in the basement of my home. By 2001 I had outgrown my home office and moved to a commercial office location. In 2005 I passed the Enrolled Agent exam with my first attempt and am now an Enrolled Agent. An Enrolled Agent is a person deemed an expert in taxation by the IRS. I really love the people that I get to meet in this line of work, and I take pride in helping new business owners fulfill their dreams of a successful business.
Joe Novak, Staff Accountant

My journey in accounting began long ago working in my mom’s accounting office since I was about 14 years old. After high school, I obtained degrees in mathematics and physics and decided to be a high school teacher for a period of 10 years, although I was always working at the accounting office on evenings and weekends. In 2012 I received my master’s degree in business administration and left teaching shortly after. I then spent about 8 years as the CFO of two different small businesses. ABJ has recently brought me back into the commercial and personal accounting world and I love it because I just like helping people. I truly enjoy watching small business owners find the financial organization and success they work so hard for daily. My morals and ethics are very “old school” and I find enjoyment in my free time with my family that includes my wife and two children, as well as extended family.
